The Campbell River and North Island Transition Society is hosting the Coldest Night of the Year, Canada’s National Walk for Homelessness on Saturday Feb. 24 and it is putting out a call for teams. “By walking and fundraising, you will be helping people in our community who need help right now,” say the organizers.
The society is hoping to see at least 15 more teams formed with a total goal of raising $25,000. Walkers will have a choice of either a two-kilometre or a five-kilometre route, starting from the Navy League Hall at 911 13th Avenue. Registration opens at 4 p.m., opening ceremonies start at 5 p.m. and the walk gets underway at 5:15 p.m. A warm, light meal will be served to walkers between 6 and 8 p.m.
Interested participants may start a team or join an existing team. Go to www.cnoy.org/Campbellriver to sign up as a team captain, join a team, volunteer or donate.
