Nighttime Security Patrols Underway on Reserve

Security patrols of the reserve are now taking place following a recent Band Council decision. Western Elite Security is conducting three patrols a night, four nights a week.

We won’t describe all the details in order to improve the effectiveness of the service. Quinn James, Director of Western Elite, describes the patrols as “random but methodical.” They are conducted by Western Elite employees in marked cars that are tracked by GPS.

The First Nations company is based in Campbell River. It conducts a similar service on the Quinsam reserve and crime and police calls have dropped as a result, Quinn says. He says his employees are fully licensed and bonded and certified in first aid, CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED).

Quinn invites reserve residents to contact Western Elite if they are not sure if their concern warrants contacting the police or if they simply don’t wish to call police for any reason.

“We’re easy to talk to, anyone can call us,” he says. “We’re here to be a deterrent to crime.”
